Association Holds Annual Conference NUMEROUS REMITS CARRIED HASTINGS, Sept. 20. The annual conference of the New Zealand Boxing Association was opeued in Hastings this morning, Mr D. H. Newbegin (president) presiding. The conference was opened by the Mayor

(Mr Maddison), who wished the sport of boxing a successful future. Mr Newbcgin, referring to the sending of a team to Australia last season, said the tour had done more good than appeared on paper. In regard to the Bert Lowe benefit, lie said great credit was due to Greymouth and Taumaru* nui for their contributions. Mr W. Talbot (Wellington) criticised the making of grants to associations short of their quota of fees. Ho expressed doubt whether, in view of the fact that each association had only one representative in 20 years, and that, the total cost in that time was £2500, international contests were worth holding. Mr George Bush (Auckland) answered that no commitments for future tours had been made. The position was still open. Mr Brisk added that the availability of the trip .to Australia as a prize for merit had no doubt stimulated boxing. Remits carired included the following:— * Rule 10, page 11, now clause (E) was deleted. In' this rule a severe penalty is made on associations holding more than one tournament with a professional bout in a calendar month; It was resolved to support all sporting bodies in an attempt to bring about a reduction or the abolition of the amusement tax on sporting fixtures. It was further decided that nominations of boxers for the New Zealand championships shall not be accepted from any association other than that by which the boxer is registered, unless with the consent of the association concerned.

The ban prohibiting the appearance of coloured boxers in professional contests in New Zealand is to be removed, provided always that permission for the appearance of that boxer is obtained from the Boxing Council. Where an association desires the appearance at its tournament of a team of amateur boxers from another district, tho negotiations and the arrangements for the appearance of such a team are to be conducted through tho association in whose district such team resides and the team is not to be advertised as representing its province without tho consent of tho association concerned.

Arrangements are to bo made wita the New Zealand Boxing Council to forward to associations a monthly bulletins giving particulars of all future boxing contests arranged and held under its jurisdiction, together with the names and weights of professional contestants, the value of the purse or percentage basis and the date and place of the tourney. All associations are to make every endeavour to co-operata with the council in supplying this information and to arrange with boxing professionals in their respective districts to lodge with the council from time to time tieir application, to include record, weight, expenses and tho purse required, as well as availability, information is to be also embodied in. the above bulletin. It was decided to add to rule 37 a new clause (d): That any boxer who holds three professional titles and who retires undefeated shall be presented with a certificate in recognition thereof, Artie Hay to receive the first certificate.

It was decided that the New Zealand Boxing Council arrange for the importation of overseas boxers, and that the boxers, while in the Dominion, shall be under the control of the council, who shall arrange suitable matches in various centres.

It was resolved by 63 votes to 55 to hold the next championships at Dunedin. The only other application taken was Christchurch. Owing to the absence of sponsors, Greymouth and Timaru as venues lapsed. The election of' officers resulted:— President, Mr W. D. Wilson (Otago); vice-presidents, Messrs D. H. Newbigin (Hawke's Bay) and A, H. Curtayna (Wellington). The appeal committee, trustees and council, also all individual officers, were re-elected. Mr. Dawson, the treasurer, estimated the income at £I3OO and the expenditure at £1213 for the current year. From July to September the income was £ll6 above last year's estimates, he said. On Mr Talbot’s motion it was resolved that there should bo no commitment entered into with regard to an international contest with Australia in 1936 without the consent of the 1935 conference.
