A Pleasant Little Surprise Evening at Feilding

On Tuesday evening the members of St. John’s Croquet Club and their friends paid a surpriso visit to Mr and Mrs E. A.. Golding at their homo in York street for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr Golding in recognition of his many kindly services in connection with the club. A very pleasant time was spent in playing bridge and after supper was served Mrs S. D. Pearce (vice-president of the club), on behalf of its members asked Mr Golding, who is conductor of the Feilding Orchestral' Society, to accept a silver-mounted baton with every good wish from the members, who were deeply grateful for the kindness lie had at all times shown them in matters pertaining to croquet. Following the singing of "He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” Mr Gol'ding, who showed the greatest astonishment as well as appreciation of the gift, .made a witty and very amusing little speech of thanks. Among those present, were Mrs Golding, Mr and Mrs S. D. Pearce, Mrs H. Brandt, Mrs J. McGuigan, Mrs Pack, Mrs G. Wells, Mrs F. Moore, Mrs F. 11. Stockwell, Sir and Mrs T. Collins, Mr and Mrs Hcsscltinc, Mrs 11. Pearce and Miss-Guildford.
