QUARTER’S CALLS TOTAL 22,
Tho Palmerston North Firo Board held its quarterly meeting yesterday. There wero present: Messrs. A. EMansford (chair), D. S. McCartney, v. M. Edgar, L. H. Collinson. Mr. Collinson was extended a welcome after Ins trip abroad. The superintendent, Mr. W. H. Barnard, reported that during tho present quarter the brigade had received -- calls (4 false alarms, 3 of them malicious S chimnevs, 1 rubbish, 1 hedge, actual fires, none of them serious). On the contents, tho insurance was £ll7O, the estimated valuo £2145, and the estimated loss insured £32 Is Cd. Insurance on buildings was £1725, estimated value £-'S7S, and estimated loss insured £o q 3 Cd. The 700 feet of 24 inch unlincd canvas hoso provided for in tho estimates had arrived, and -tests proved it to be satisfactory. Plant generally was in good order. Firemen had attended well at drills and fires. —Adopted. The secretary (Mr. C. V. Day) read particulars received from tho Treasury and from the Local Government Loans Board regarding the nature of conversion operations should the board decide on such a scheme. It "was decided to make formal application for consent to convert. The two loans involved aro for £I6OO and £19,650, and as the saving in annual charges will be slight from £1139 4s to £ll3l 5s and from £34 to £SI, the board will proceed with conversion only if further examination shows such a stop advisable.. The superintendent was given permission to attend tho annual conference of the New Zealand branch of the Institute of Fire Engineers of Great Britain, to be held in Christchurch probably before Christmas.
