BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETS.
The Palmerston North High Schools’ Board of Governors met last evening, Mr. J. W. Ruthcrfurd presiding. Others present were: Mrs. M. Aitchison, Messrs. T. R. Hodder, A. J. Graham, IV. R. Birnie, O. Monrad. Technical School. Mr. G. G. Hancox acknowledged a donation of 10s from Mr. W. Peters for tho kitchenctto fund. There was now a total of 1072 students enrolled (521 day and 551 evening). Tho weekly hour enrolments wero 13,078 compared with 12,849 for 1933. A concert by the students had raised £l9 2s 7d for the kitchenctto fund, to which Mr. W. Devine also made a donation of £3 Is Cd. The net proceeds of daffodil day would bo about £sl. In tho Juuo speed shorthand results, 1 pupil passed at 350 words per minute, 2 at 130, 3 at 120, 2 at 90, and 1 at SO. Mr. Hancox also detailed rc-arrangements of the staff. Various repairs to tho buildings wero authorised. Boys’ High School. Mr. J. Murray reported a roll number of 358, with an average attendance of 335. Tho only special event was a concert in aid of tho school amenities fund, to bo held iu tho assembly hall on Friday, September 2S. Mrs. M. Rhodes reported a roll of 223. The school A basketball team won tho Saturday competition, again holding the Robert Cup. They also beat Kelvin Grove, the Wednesday winners, and so wero champions of Manawatu. Two members, Patty Payne and Enid Sinclair wero included in tho representative team for Dunedin.
