l’er Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night.

The pressure is still high to the north of New Zealand, but the first part of an extensive and vigorous westerly depression is crossing the South Island. Winds: North-west to westerly, moderate to strong generally and in places icaching gale force. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough south of Capo Egmont and about Cook and Fovcaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: North-west to westerly winds, strong in tho southern portion, with rough seas; moderate to fresh in the northern portion with moderate seas. Weather: Still fair to fine in most districts, with mild temperatures. Some scattered, mainly light, rain in western districts from Taranaki southwards and southern portions of the South Island.
