Export of Dairy Produce To United Kingdom
GOVERNMENT WATCHING THE SITUATION.
Per Press Association.
WELLINGTON, Last Night.
In the House of representatives this afternoon Mr. W. J. Poison asked the Prime Minister whether it was the Government’s intention to give the dairy industry an opportunity similar to that given to the meat industry in negotiations with respect to the proposed meal restrictions. ‘ • •
“The Government recognise that the interests*.of the dairying industry in some measure arc involved in any arrangement concerning meat which may be arrived at between.the Governments of the United "Kingdom and of the respective Dominions, and in the negotiations which have taken place the New Zealand Government have been not unmindful of those interests,” replied the Prime Minister.
“As, however, no definite action can bo taken in this connection without the concurrence of the New Zealand Government, the hoonurable member may Tost assured that in any arrangements that may bo finally agreed upon the Government will be only too pleased to consult the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board and to safeguard as much as possible the welfare of the dairying industry. As has already been stated, the Government some time ago arranged for the Meat Producers' Board and the Dairy Control Board to confer on matters of common interest arising from developments in relation to imports of farm produce into the United Kingdom.”
