ANNUAL MEETING OF UNITED CLUE
Air A. Jewett presided over the annual general meeting of tho United Cricket Club, there being a good att tendance. The report, and balancesheet were adopted.
. The election of officers for the incoming season resulted: —Patron, Air B. J. Jacobs; president, Mr A. E. Mansford; vice-presidents, Messrs P. S. Larcomh, W. L. Fitzherbert, W. Black, W. K. Kells,- T, R. Moore, J. Hodgeus, W. H. Boon, F. S. Goldingiiam and H. Collinson; . ci'ub captain, Air A. Jewett; committee, Messrs A. Cutler, L. Monteith, J. Sandman, D. N. Davis, A. Penman, and the junior officers to be elected; secretary and treasurer, Air H. A. Stone; delegates to the Alanawatu. Cricket Association, Afiessrs A. Jewett and A. Cutler; gear stewards, Al.essrs D. N, Davis and C. McLaren.. It was decided to. enter a senior and a. junior B team in the inter-club competitions; that the first practice be held on September 29; and that on the following Saturday a friendly match be played. Sixteen new members were elected.
On the motion of Air K. Oiliver, seconded by Air A. .Penman, it was decided .to instruct the delegates to support, the formation of an Umpires’ Association. It was also decided to urge that a challenge be lodged for a Hawke Cup match this season. The subscriptions were set down at £1 for seniors and 12s 6d for juniors.
Votes of appreciation for the services they had rendered the club -were extended the retiring secretary (Mr F. C. Woodham) and Mr K. Olliver, who had tendered his resignation as a. member of the senior team. It. was decided that all playing material be purchased locally, and Messrs A. Cutler and J. Sandman 'were set up as a committee to secure any material necessary. The imposing of a charge of £2 2s for the preparation of practice wickets was considered by the members to be too high, and the delegates tp the annual meeting of the association were instructed to press for some assistance from the governing, authorities. It was also considered that, in view of the sound financial position of the association, tho ground fees should be reduced to 9d per playing day for. seniors and 6d for juniors.
Mr A. Cutler was congratulated on heading the batting averages in representative. cricket, while-, a similar compliment was extended Mr L. Cockcry on heading the bowling returns in the junior representatives, both being members of the club.
