Noel Coward, the outstanding genius of tlio modern theatre, lias been represented on the screen only twice—" Private Rives” and "Cavalcade”—until British Dominion Films’ elaborate film presentation, "Bitter Sweet,” at the Foxton Town Hall to-night, came along to rank at file top of all Coward’s successes. "Bitter Sweet” is a romantic operetta far above musical-comedy standard, which tells tiie story of the deathless love of beautiful Sari (Anna Neagle) for her handsome young music master (Fernand Graavey). Carl and Sari elope, to Vienna where Sari sings and Carl leads the orchestra in a gay cafe, and where bitter mixes with tho sweet when a captain refuses to be discouraged in his attentions to’tho beautiful Sari. "I’ll Seo You Again” and "Tokay Drinking Song” (sung by the famous baritone, Stuart Robertson) are featured. Ivy St. Helier, tho famous comedienne who played tiie rolo of Alanon in the London and New York runs on the stage, sings tho chic French numbers. The critics of England and America agree that “Bitter Sweet” is tlio finest of all musical screen productions.
