Foxton

From Our Own Correspondent. Boy Scout Troop Formed. Commissioners Stubbs and Callis, together with Seouters Wilson, Holmes and Sweetman, visited Foxton on Thursday evening last when the official installation of tho Foxton Boy Scouts took place and tiie committee formed. There were also present Brownie Leaders, Misses M. Barron and B. Hunt, Captain and Airs. Aliddleton, Airs. N. A. Ross, Aliss B. Middletoil and Rev. 11. S. Kenney. The boys were in charge of .Scoutmaster H. Hamer, assisted by Assistant Scoutmasters Gudgeon and AlcDonaUl. Tho proceedings opened with a haka of welcome to the Commissioner. The haka was excellently performed and tho Commissioner congratulated Scoutmaster lfamer on the proficiency of the troop. The Commissioner then took charge and inspected tho troops, after which he presented a trophy for the best staff made by tlio scouts themselves from Now Zealand wood. The prize was won by Scout R. Shortliouse. A brief address was given by the Commissioner on the aims and objects of scouting. Various games were indulged in, after which supper was partaken of. Tiie boys then reformed troops and after "Taps” were dismissed. At the meeting for tlio election of a committee which followed, tiie duties of tho committee were briefly outlined, and the following officers were elected: Chairman, Captain Aliddloton, D. 5.0.; secretary and treasurer, Airs. AI. A. Ross. At tho conclusion of tlio meeting Captain Aliddleton proposed a. vote of thanks to tho visiting Commissioner and his party. This was carried with acclamation. Euchre and Dance. Alcmbers of the Beach Improvement committee held llieir usual fortnightly cuchro and dance in the Beach hall on Afonday evening. The results of the euchre were as follow:—Ladies, Aliss 1. Smith 1, Mrs. Alitchell 2; ladies’ mystery, Aliss AlcDowell; men, Air. AI. Alsop 1, All-. Sinclair 2; men’s mystery, Alaster J, Smith. Novelty dances were held during tho evening, tho winners being as follow: Atonto Carlo, Aliss I. Smith and Air. Penfold; Gay Gordons, Airs. ,T. Smith and Airs. Campbell. Throughout tiie season the competitors in the euchre tournament liavo been playing for a points prize which was donated by Watt-horns, Ltd., of Palmerston North, On Afonday evening the winners were declared ns follow: Ladies, Aliss Cotter; men, Air. Williams.
