CITY' COUNCIL'S VIEWPOINT Recently the Palmerston North City Council received a communication from the Council of Christian Congregations on the matter of free speech. The City Council’s reply, decided upon last evening, is couched as follows: — "That a copy of the by-law be sent to the Council of Christian Congregations and that it l>e advised that while this council does not oppose free speech, it.nevertheless owes a duly to its citizens for the maintenance of law and order, and must exercise some control over the speakers and the occasions on which they desire to use the appointed site.’
