Manawatu-Oroua River Board
LARGE AMOUNTS OF RATES OUTSTANDING. The Manawatu-proua River Board met yesterday. Present were Messrs. A. A. Mitchell (chair), J. Callescn, H. Seifert., H. J. Lancaster, R. J. Law, B. G. Gower, T. D. Lynch, AV. Jackson. Since' March 31, reported the clerk (Mr E. H. Spencer), £l6l 9s 7d had been collected of t.ho administrative late levy, £2O 13s 9d for No. 1 a-rea, £2l 6s 2d for No. 2 area, and £34 7s lid from No. 3 area. Outstanding amounts were: £lOlO .14s Id (administrative), £245 14s Id (No. 1 area), £215 ISs 4d (No. 2 area), £396 15s lid (No. 3 area). There was a general credit of £603 5s ad with the bank, but tho debits of the four areas, totalling £666 9s 3d, left a net debit of £63 3s lOd. Outstanding accounts swolled this tiguro to £S3 0s Id. Mr. hi. A. Eliott waited on the board protesting, on behalf of the Lockwood Land Company, against the classification of portion of its land for tho formation of the No. 4 special area. Some of the land was above the 45ft. contour, and much of it above the 35ft. l eve l.—xt was pointed out to Mr. Eliott that a previous protest had resulted in the removal of 100 acres from rating class E to class F. The board did not now feci disposed to make any further concession, as the burden on the property was not severe. The Manawatu Drainage Board advised, that it was making, by way of contribution towards the expenses of carrying out tlie work at Hamilton s Bend, the transport of men ‘ by one motor-lorry daily (including the services of the driver as supervisor) for a period of three months. The Kairanga County Council wrote in similar terms, putting a limit of £IOO on its commitments.
