From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting’ of the Bunnythorpe School Committee was held on Monday evening. Those present were Messrs A. F. McKenzie (chairman), D. Heggie, G. Duthie, O. Jackson (secretary) and R. H. Abraham (head teacher). A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr. Wm, Maxwell In the death of his sister, and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jary, Te Awamutu, Mr. Abraham, headmaster, reported that the roll number was 92 with an average attendance of 74. The low average was attributable to tho epidemic of measles and mumps which had visited ho district during tho past two months. However, an improvement was now in evidence and tho attendance should soon reach normal. The grounds committee reported that tho school grounds were in good order notwithstanding tho heavy rain experienced during tho month. It was decided to hold a children’s fancy dress ball on the 28th inst. A voto of thanks was carried to Mr. and Mrs. S. K. Sinclair for their services in finding means of conveyance for the school children who wert taking part in sports contests outside tho district. Mr. O. Jackson was appointed to the visiting committee for tho ensuing month. A pleasant social was held on Tuesday evening under tho auspices of tho Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class. Despite the inclemency of the weather a goodly number of young people wc-ro present. Credit for arranging and carrying out the function is due to the committee consisting of Messrs A. Stewart, T. Coker, M. Donald, S. Colter and K. Wiggins. Tlu programme consisted of games, musical and vocal items. A number of competitions were a feature of the evening. Music for tho games was supplied by Mis 3L. Itees. Supper was supplied by the young ladles’ Bibio class. 1 The friends of Mr. ,T. Rhys will be pleased to learn that he is now out of hospital and is making satisfactory progress towards complete recovery'. Mrs. Robinson and her Jittlo daughter, of Foxton, were the guests of Mrs. U. Jackson for tho week-end. Sir. D. B. B. "Wallace, a well-known resident of Hiwinui, is leaving tho district and taking up residence at Otaki. Mr. M. Nicol and Mr. It. Webby aro accompanying him. The settlers wish Mr. and Mrs. Wallace and family every success in their now venture. Miss Mario Mazengarb, who has been spending the school vacation with Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith, Railway road, has returned to her home in Wellington. Miss E. Ferguson has been staying for a few days with Mrs. O. Jackson. Master J. Beilis, who lias been visiting Mr. ,T. McDonald, has returned homo. Ml S 3 H. Fowler, who has been on holiday with relatives in Wanganui, returned home on Monday. . Miss S. R. Oliver was a passenger by Saturday evening's train for Taumarunui. Mr. A. Hill i 3 reportod to be making good progress after an operation in the Palmerston North hospital.
