From Our Own Correspondent. Tennis Club. Tho annual meeting of the Fox ton Tennis Club was held on Monday evening, when there was a good attendance oi members present. Mr. M. 13. Perreau (vice-president) presided, and tho annual report and balance sheet wero adopted. Resignations from the following members of tho club were received with much regret: Misses F. Wright, I. Patterson, E. Moore and Weeks, and Mr. A. Walsh. Among tho correspondence dealt with wore letters from the Manawatu Lav, n Tennis Association. Ono stated that at a meeting of club delegates to tho association it was resolved that, in tho interests of tennis, all clubs should provide new balls for all singles matches and that in no caso should a club provide less tiian four pairs of new balls. A further letter from the association intimated that tho annual general meeting of tho association requested that in future all affiliated clubs hold their annual meeting prior to the annual general meeting of tho association which is held in tho middle of August of each year, and also asking for the names and addresses of delegate or delegates from the Foxton Club to tne association together with the name and addresses of tho secretary, and for statistical purposes, the number of active members, senior and junior, for the past season in the club. Tho following were elected new members of tho club: Mr. and Mrs. W. Ogden, Mrs. Husband, Messrs B. Saywell, J. Newton and W. Symons, Misses D. Parsons, B. Hunt, J. Tliynne, M, Yurkc and F. McKenzie. Tho election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. J. Linklater, M.P.; president, Mr. M. E. Perreau; vice-presidents, Messrs F. A. Mason and R. N. Speirs; secretary and treasurer, Miss L. Thompson; club captain, Mr. JB. Macplierson; delegate to Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. R. McMurray; men’s committee, Messrs B. Gavin, L. Saywell and M. Baird; ladies’ committee, Mrs. R. N, Speirs, Misses D. Pillar and M. Barron; match committee, Mr. J. B. Macpherson and Miss L. Thompson; auditor, Mr. W. Trueman. Special votes of thanks were accorded to Mr. W. Trueman (auditor) and Miss L. Thompson (secretary) for their valuable services in tho interests of tho club. It was decided that the official opening of tho courts shall take place on Saturday, September 29, Tho question of improvements in connection with competitive matches was discussed and It. was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the committee. It was suggested that on match days particularly, members should bo asked to bring afternoon tea and to Help dispense same. Tho meeting concluded with votes of thanks to tho chair and the outgoing officers. Obituary. A very well-known personage along this coast, Mr. Alfred Spademan, one' of Otaki's oldest residents, died on Thursday last. Deceased, who was Si years of age, had been a carter from Stoko’s Valley to Foxton when tho only road was via tho beach. The late Mr. Spackman was born at Stake’s Valley and resided there for a number of years when ho went to Bulls and took up residence. His wife predeceased him some time ago, and there are a son, Mr. George Spackman (Stoko’s Valley) and a daughter, Mrs. Mount (Mt. Bruce, Masterton), left to mourn their loss. There are also nine grandchildren and threo great-grandchildren.
