From Our Own Correspondent. 'Clio batchelors’ ball, held last Friday evening, proved to be a very successful function, both from tho viewpoint of attendance (visitors being present from all surrounding districts), and also on account of its brightness. Music "was provided by a professional orchestra from Dannevirko, extras being kindly supplied by Miss Day and Mr. G. Hoggard (piano) and Mr. F. C. Ebbett (accordion). Tho scores recorded by the Miniature Rifle Club at tho weekly practice shoot held on Monday evening wero as follow _F. Ebbett 99, 98, 197; C. Garhck 99, 97 136: G. Day 9S, 98, 396; W. G. Rising was amongst the prizo winners at the Walrarapa Miniature Rifle Club’s competition held at Carterton at the- end of last week. . Mr. Gordon is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North hospital. His many friends will wisli him a speedy recovery. Mrs. A. Mitchell and Miss Rlioda Mitchell have keen to Wellington to attend Hie annual conference at the Dominion Federation of Women’s Institutes. The 'sky on Thursday night was' covered bv light, misty clouds, but tho partial eclipse of tlio moon was nevertheless distinctly visible, and tiiose interested in this phenomenon hud an opportunity which rarely occurs of witnessing the whole course from approximately 10.20 to 11.45 p.m. t
