Rongotea
From Our Own Correspondent. A successful euchre and dance was staged by the Rongotea Catho c Clnuch mi Wpdnpsdav evening. Piogtessne euchre played until 10.30 was won by Mrs. Brosnan with Mrs. J. second Mr. M. Hehir secured the men s puze with Mr. P. Goodwin second. Ihe dance music was supplied by a Feilding orchestra. Two Monte carlo nances were staged, the prize winners betas Mr. and J. Corbett and Mr A. Ogilvio and Miss N. Wheelex. The competitions were won by Mrs. J. Taylor and Mr. T. Lein, and tlie lucky door ticket by Mr. D. Sexton. On Monday evening the Rongotea Ranger Company gavo a party to ceiobrato the birthday of the Davis twins, Nancy and Rawi. The party was a nuisery rhyme one, each girl being requested to attend representing a character of a nursery rhyme. Tlio costumes were varied and well got up. Games and competitions were enjoyed and alter supper had been served Mrs. C. W. Davison, captain of the Rangers, presented trie Misses Davis with a birthday gilt and an behalf of those present wished them many happy returns. . An unexpected visit was paid by -u members of the • United Evangelical Church (Palmerston North) Christian Endeavour Society to tlio local Methodist C.E. Society last week. Mr. W. J. Kemp accompanied the visitors. After greetings had been exchanged, Mr. N. lederson extended a welcome to all and the meeting proceeded with devotional exercises lollowcd by the subject of the evening which was entered into with much freedom. Members of both societies found the interchange of ideas very helpful and it is hoped that more of these surprise visits between town ana country will eventuate. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Bond, who are leaving the district, were entertained at the meeting of the schedule committee of the Rongotea Horticultural Society held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Caverhill on Tuesday evening. Mrs. A. J. Will, president of- the society, expressed regret at the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Bond. Both had been energetic workers for the society and as exhibitors as well as workers, they would bo greatly missed. Mrs. Will then presented them with a suitcase of solid leather and wished them every success and happiness in their new homo which is to be in Eltham. Mr. Bond suitably responded.
