MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Palmerston North City Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford), Crs. G. TremainOj W. H. Brown, A. A. Langley, R. L. C. Aitchison, H. B. Free, J. Hodgens, W B. Tennent, W. B. Cameron rad \V. Mouldey. The Manawatu Automobile Association wrote asking for further consideraion of the question of additional crossag at the Post Office and asking that .ho engineer meet representatives of ha association and report back to tho ;cuncil.—Agreed to. Condition of Botanical Bead. The Takaro Progressive Association drew attention to tho condition of Botanical road from the railway to Feathcrstone street and requested that a footpath bo constructed on the town side, and also pointing out that more street lights are required at the railway end of tho thoroughfare.—lt was resolved that that portion of the letter referring to Botanical road be referred to the works committee, the engineer to report thereon, and that the question of additional street lights bo referred to tho lighting committee. Lyndhurst Street.
The Takaro Progressive Association also protested against the non-inclusion of that portion of Lyndhurst street traversed by the omnibuses, in the list of those streets which aro to be tarsealed.—lt was resolved to inform tho association that as the council is undertaking as much tarsealing as finances will permit, tho next schedule of works to be considered will include the portion of Lyndhurst street above referred to. Workers’ Dwellings. Mr. H. Mason suggested that for the purpose of relieving local unemployment the council approach tho Unempolyment Board for a loan to erecl about CO workers’ houses of 4 to 5 rooms, costing approximately £SOO to £GOO inclusive of section. —It- was resolved to inform tho writer that tho council regTets it cannot ontertain the proposal as it is the .council’s experience that the erection of houses is not a payable proposition. Restoration of Five Per Cent. Cut. The notice of motion bj; Cr. Hodgens appearing on page ICO of tbe minute book which was referred to tho works committee, was amended and agreed to as set out hereunder: —"That tho resolution of the council passed on May 23. 1934, be altered to provide for restoration of the cut of 5 per cent, on the first £250 in respect of all employees whoso wages or salary is under £ooo, as from date heroin mentioned.’'’ Dressing Boom, Milverton Park. The Manawatu Ladies’ Hockey Association requested provision for dressing shed at Milverton park, and it was decided that tho engineer submit a sketch of a shelter and cstimato of tho cost, the question of proceeding with the work being left in tho hands of the Mayor and Cr. Tromaino with power to act. Manawatu Bowling Club. With reference to the yearly lease of the Fitzherbcrt street bowling greens which expires on July 1, 1934, it was decided to ask tho Manawatu Bowling and Croquet Club to submit a statement of its financial position and to send a deputation to the next meeting of the reserves committee.
