Feilding Borough Estimates Approved

A CONSOLIDATED RATE OF Bfd. IN THE £. At a special meeting of the Feilding Borough Council, held in committte on Thursday evening, the estimates for the current year were finally approved. The main point considered by the council in its deliberations over the estimates had to do with tho advantages and disadvantages of tho proposed sanitation rate —an innovation as far as Feilding is concerned. In the discussion it was suggested that the existing rubbish collection service might not be sufficient to ileal with the anticipated increase in its use that would result from the imposition of a sanitation rate, and it was therefore decided to eliminate the sanitation rate and to raiso tho general rate by an amount sufficient to bring in tho revenue anticipated under the proposed sanitation charge. Mr. C. 11. Tate, Town Clerk, stated yesterday that with tho foregoing adjustment, together with sundry minor alterations, tho estimates were finally approved. The new rates were decided upon as follows:—A consolidated rate of Sgd. in tho £, made up of a general rate of 211-l Gd. in tho £, a hospital rate of 11-l Gd. in the £, and a special rate of 5d in the £. In addition there is a water rate of 4 per cent, on the annual value.
