Fat Cattle Up £1 a Head on Late Rates KEEN COMPETITION FOR LAMBS AND SHEEP Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. With entries in the principal sections smaller than for some time, the general tone of the demand at the Addington market to-day was sharpened as compared with last week. Store Sheep: There was an indifferent offering, typical of winter, and little interest was taken in the sale. Values for ewes were easier except for best types. Passings woro frequent. Wethers declined in - valuo compared with late rates by 1/- to 1/6 per head. Lamb prices wero easier by 1/- to 1/6 per head. Values were: Good 2-tooth threo-quarter-bred owes to 31/6, ordinary to 26/9, medium 6-tooth and S-tooth half-bred 20/- to 21/3, plain 15/- to 16/3, sound mouth 17/- to 19/3, sound and failing mouth 13/4 to 16/11, forward half-bred wethers 18/3 to 19/7, ordinary 2-tooth to 16/5, medium ewe lambs 17/4 to 18/4, ordinary 15/6 to 16/10, medium m.s. 14/- to 16/-, others 10/6 to 13/10. Fat Lambs: There was an entry of 3000 head and competition was exceedingly keen, Especially for butchers' sorts. Export buyers operated at rates fully up to the schedule, based on 8d for two’s. Butdliers’ sorts advanced 1/per head. Values: Extra prime heavy lambs to 29/4, prime 24/6 to 27//6, medium weights 21/6 to 24/-, light 16/to 21/-. Fat Sheep: Tho entry totalled 4800 head. Sheep came forward from Chatham Islands, tho West Coast and southern provinces, and competition was well sustained 'throughout, The ratos were equal to those at the last market. Values: Prime heavy wethers to 2S/10, heavy 25/- to 27/-, medium weight 22/6 to 25/-, ordinary 19/- to 22/-, light 15/to 18/-. Extra prime heavy ewes to 26/10, heavy w.w.b.n. to 24/-, medium weight 19/6 to 21/6, ordinary 18/6 to 19/-, light 12/- to 16/-. Fat Cattle: The entry of 300 head was the smallest for a considerable period, the result being a keen sale, with an advance of up to £1 per head on late rates. Good young beef made to 25/6 per lOOlbs., prime from 21/- to 24/-, heavy 18/- to 19/-, secondary 15/to 18/-, inferior and rough down to 14/-. Values: Exera prime heavy steors to £ll/12/6, prime £7/15/- to £9/15/-, medium weight £6/15/- to £B/5/-, ordinary £4/15/- to £6/5/-, light to £4/10/-. Extra prime heifers to £S/12/6, prime £5/10/- to £7, ordinary £3/10/- to £5; extra prime cows to £7/12/6, prime £4/10/- to £6, ordinary £3 to £4, light to £2/15/-. Fat Pigs: There was a medium ontry and the demand was spasmodic, with the usual irregularity in prices. Values: Choppers 30/- to £5/6/-, baconers 45/- to £3/12/6. Average price.per pound, 4d to sd. Porkers. 21/-, heavy 14/-. Values: Exera prime heavy steers porkers to 36/6, average price per pound 4|d to 5Jd. The vealers entered were .mainly uniinished, and large sorts, and small calves were in short supply.
