In spito of the failure of tho aero clubs of New Zealand, to co-operate in promoting a Dominion entry for tho forthcoming Centonary air i-aces from England to Australia, the Auckland committee still hopes to arrange for a machine to be entered in the handicap race. It is likely, in the event of the necessary funds of tbout £7OOO being raised, that Squadron-Leader J. D. Hcwett and Flying-Officer C. E. Kay, of Auckland, will be chosen as pilot and navigator respectively. A deputation of prominent business men waited on the Hon. J. A. Young seeking permission to hold an art union to raise the necessary funds. It is understod that the Minister was favourably inclined towards the proposal, but no definite reply has yet been received. A proposal that an additional selector should be appointed by the New Zealand Rugby Union for each Island, put before the Canterbury Union, mot with meagre support, a motion on those line 3 being defeated. Tho subject was raised by Mr E. V, Phillips, who said that Mr V, R. Meredith, one of the North Island selectors, and Crown Prosecutor at Auckland, was engaged in a case which would last for some weeks and would not allow him much time to see players. The work would be Icift to the other selector (Mr E. McKenzie). He thought it would be a good idea for an additional man to be appointed. Mr V. L. Jensen said that under the circumstances it would appear that Canterbury was dissatisfied because its nomination had not been adopted for the South Island.
