Rongotea

The Rugby match played at Rongolea on Saturday was a junior grade one between Kaimatarau (green) and the home team (black). The visitors were victorious by 5 points to 3. The first half was a very poor exhibition of how the game should be played, scrums and lino outs being the main feautre. In the second spell, however, things brightened and from the kick off greens took possession and carried play down to the blacks’ line but skilful tackling altered matters and play came back to halfway for L. Thompson to break away and after a good sprint, score near the posts. R. Jellyman converted; s—o in favour of Kaimatarau. Blacks went to the attack with renewed vigour for Chapman to receive and score in the corner. The kick failed. No further score was registered. Blacks were rather unfortunate in having several fresh men in the field. Mr. A. Roberts, in the absence of the appointed referee, controlled the game.
