HER LATEST PICTURE WILL BE “NO FUNNY BUSINESS’’
Gertrude Lawrence, who stars in “No Funny Business,” at the Palace theatre on November 22, should need no introduction to film lovers in Australasia. Her work on both the London stage and screen is of such consistent brilliance that it gives her a niche in the hearts of all picturegoers ancl playgoers.
Among her British serecu work prior to starring in “No Funny Business , was a romantic part in “Aren’t We All’’ and a dramatic role in “Lord Camber's Ladies.’ ’ British Dominions Films felt that they have captured the true Gertrude Lawrence—Comedienne —in her portrayal of Yvonne Kane in “No Funny Business.”
As the spoilt wife of Edmond Brcon, who portrays a loving but somewhat slow and boring husband, Miss Lawrence has full scope for her great range of acting. This is the first time that she has played a comedy part on the screen, and her performance in this picture satisfies -the critics that she is a very great acquisition to the British lilm Industry.
Gertrude Lawrence was bom in London, was educated at a Sacred Heart Convent, and made her first appearance on the stage in 190 S as a child in “Dick Whittington.’’
