The high values that ruled for young cattle at the fair in Feilding a fortnight back were not sustained at the supplementary fair held yesterday when a large offering came under the hammer. Earlier values were admittedly in excess of those justified by the prevailing conditions and those who purchased on that high market yesterday found, in the case of the young cattle, rates operating more in keeping with the general farming situation. As far as grown cattle were concerned yesterday’s prices were on a par with those which obtained at the fair a fortnight ago. Eat cattle found the market quite buoyant with values fully up to late rates. Dairy lines were in shorter supply and sales were fairly steady at rates in keeping with the quality of the stock. A short supply of fat sheep found local buyers ready to raise their limits and values lifted for all classes. '• The store sheep pens were practically negccted, the offering being confined to ewes with lambs at foot when sold at market values. The following are the quotations: — Fat sheep: Hoggets, 17s Sd, 18s 7d, 20s 4d, 20s 6d, 235, 23s lOd to 24s 3d; shorn ewes, 143 Sd, 15s, 15s 3d, 15s 7d, 17s, 17s Bd, 18s 2d, 19s Id to 21s; maiden ewes, 20s; woolly ewes, 20s tc 235; woolly wethers, 24s 7d to 255; shorn wethers, 16s lOd, 20s 51 to 21s; b.f. 2-th’s., 21s 9d to 23s 10d. WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE The noticeable feature of the monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, hides and tallow conducted by Abraham and Williams, Ltd., was the marked increase in values for all sheepskins. Competition throughout was very keen at prices in most cases in favour of sellers. Wool: In agreement with the present tone of the market values rose Id per lb, Sheepskins: The demand was very keen and buyers' limits were more elastic and were above our last sale as much as 2d per lb. for dry skins. Salted skins also sold much better. Hides: For heavier sorts of ox the market was better by id to sd, while lighter sorts were firm. Cow hides, however, wero easier by id to id per lb. Calfskins were also easier Id per lb. Tallow: The market for poorer sorts was better, but other sorts were slightly easier.
