Y.M.C.A. Swimmers Present Annual Report

SUCCESSFUL SEASON IN REVIEW, Tho annual report of tho Y.M.C.A. Amateur Swimming and Lifo-saving Club reads:— Tho membership at tho end of the season was 22—11 inen, 7 ladies, 2 boys, and 2 girls—as compared with 26 foi tho previous season. Club nights were held every Tuesday and Friday evening, the programme consisting of swimming instruction, life-saving and racing. The club competition for tho Eyre Cup over distances of 25, 33 1-3, 50 yards freestyle and 50 yards breaststroke, all handicap races, and the Dispensary Cup over distances of 25, 33 1-3 yards freestyle and 25 yards breaststroke again produced keen racing. The Eyre Cup was won by Stuart liopvvood with 11 points, Bruco Weeks being runner-up with 10 points, while Miss D. Weeks annexed the Dispensary Cup with 13 points, Misses R. and M. Linklater, tieing for second placo with 7 points each. A further competition was held comprising 15 events spread over several weeks, points being given: Ist. place, 2; 2nd., 4; 3rd., 2; and 1 point for other members competing. Tom Twigge won this competition, gaining 5! points, Maurie Waugh occupying second place with 38 points, and Dave Smillic third place with 37-} points. Tho club was represented at the majority of inter-club carnivals with some measure of success.

In tho Weston J. Smith life-saving Roso Bowl competition the club was represented by Tom Twiggc and Roy Haddon, who succeeded iu retaining the rose bowl for the club. This is the fourth time in the six years of its competition that tho club has held the roso bowl. The annual carnival was a success, financially and otherwise, approximately 300 people attending. We wish to convey the thanks of the club to the City Council for the use of the baths, Mr. and Mrs. McLeod for their valuable co-operation and assistance, and all others who assisted tho club in various ways throughout the season. In conclusion we wish to thank all club members for their support and trust that they all will again assist the ciub towards having yet another successful season.
