Two Planes Crash And a Third Missing

DISASTROUS RETURN FROM MANOEUVRES

A Royal Air Force aeroplane returning from tlio naval manoeuvres in Scotland crashed in Northumberland, and its two occupants woro incinerated despite tho fact that tlio consort aeroplane landed and its crow attempted to drag the victims from the blazing wreckage.

A second day bomber, belonging to tho same squadron is missing, preventing officials from identifying cither the burned aeroplane or tho victims. Twelve other machines returning from tho Scottish manoeuvres were forced down at South Shields, where one crashed while landing and was wrecked. Tho occupants jumped and were not injured.

Nino planes later continued the journey, but wero compelled to turn and land near Ncwcastle-on-Tyno after perilous low flying.

Crash at High Speed TWO EX-OFFICERS KILLED AT DROME. CAPETOWN, Sept. 26. Sir Michael Oppenheimer and Major Cochran-Patrick were killed in an aeroplane wash at the Johannesburg aerodrome.

The machine had just taken oft, and it made a s>teep vertical turn, which proved too sharp. The plane hit the ground with its engines full out. Major Patrick was o pioneer of aerial survey in Africa.

Sir Michael Oppenheimer, Bart., tea? a barrister-at-law of tho Inner Temple. He was born at Kimberley in 1892, and served in tho European War. He held the rank of captain in tho Indian Ai ly Reserve.

Major C. K. Cochran-Patrick, D. 5.0., M.C., was formerly a Squadron-Com-mander in the Royal Air Force. He was born i:i 1896, and was educated at Wellington College, Sandhurst and Cambridge. After obtaining a commission in the Rifle Brigade, ho was attached to the Royal Flying Corps, and served in France from the end of 1915 till the War finished. In July, 1919, he was transferred to the Reserve of Officers, and from that time on ho was engaged in air survey in South Africa, Burma, and England.
