Fines and Penalties
MAGISTRATE’S COURT PROCEEDINGS
Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided at the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday. W.N. Vauticr, who rode a bicycle at night without a light, was fined 10s with 3s costß.
Guy M. Sommerville, aged 33, charged with being a roguo and vagabond, ■was remanded for a week for observation. Accused had previously been convicted of idleness and disordcrlincss.
Frederick Spencer was fined £2 and costs 10s, for casting offensive matter in a public place (Andrew Young street). G. G. Martin and his son, Leslie Albert Martin, admitted permitting a motor-cycle to bo used with plates attached that were likely to mislead, and also with using the machine before it •was registered. Senior-sergeant. Whitehouse explained that the plates on tho motor-cycle were taken out for a Douglas machine and were discovered on an Indian. Tho defendants stated that they wore ignorant,of the fact that they •could not transfer the plates. His Worship did not consider the cases ones for more than nominal penalties and imposed fines of 10s with costs totalling 275. E. F. Stratton was fined 10s with 10s costs for having no motor driver's license.
G. Smith, who had no reflecting mirror on his lorry, was fined £2 and costs 10s, the Magistrate holding that the offence was a serious one.
