Dairy Company Fined
EXCEEDED SPEED AND LOAD LIMITS. The New Zealand Farmers’ Dairy Union was proceeded against, m the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday by the Traffic Inspector of the Manawatu County Council (Mr W. Berry). The charges were that the •company’s lorry travelled along Pykc’s ■road (Bangiotu) at a greater, speed than was allowed by the regulations (23 im.p.h. for the class of lorry) and had failed to take out the necessary heavy traffic license.
-The Inspector stated that the County Council had received complaints that the lorry had been carrying greater loads than were allowed by its license, so ho bad stopped the vehicle to discover its weight 5 tons 3cwt., instead ■of 4’ tons. The difference in the license fee necessary amounte,d to £1 14s. As regards the speed of the vehicle, he had followed it for three miles and for two miles it had travelled at S 3 m.p.h., whereas it was only entitled to do 25 •m.p.h under the class it had been registered, and 20 m.p.h. under its proper class.
Mr Mills, the company’s manager, explained that, the overloading had been due to the excessive cream supply that had accompanied a. very good Spring. Answering the Magistrate, Mr .Berry said ho didn’t know whether the company had paid the £1 14s difference m license fee. . Mr Mills stated that the lorry had been withdrawn from the run, a lighter •vehicle now being used. Fines of £2 with 10s costs on each •charge, were imposed.
