From Gur Own Correspondent. Community Sing. The community sing- on Friday night, organised by the local school committee, attracted the largest crowd which has yet attended one of these popular functions. Before commencing- the entertainment j Mr. J. Currie asked all to stand In silence as a mark of respect to the late Air. W. ,f. Peacock whose funeral had taken place that afternoon. An attractive programme of varied items interspersed with community singing which was again under the capable leadership of Air. ,T. Currie. The pianists were Mrs. E. Davey, Airs. Id. N. Butler, Miss A, E. Fagan and Air. G. Drew. The various items presented were as follow: —Vocal solos, Airs. W. B. Pearce; vocal duct, Aliases E. E. Henson and A. E. Fagan; action song, school choir; character songs, community choir; Challenge Escape act and Indian Faith act, Air. Tj. Richards; novelty item, “The Dancing Horse,’’ by Messrs J. Currie, T. Miu'phy, Bruce Mitchell and Gordon Currie. At. a. suitable juncture Mr. B. J. Bowater, on behalf of the school committee, thanked tlio people for their attendance and also thanked those who had assisted, with the programme, particularly mentioning Mr. .'I. Currie who arranged the whole programme and who, although not now ;.i member of the school committee, always worked untiringly for school benefits. Air. Bowater intimated that Arbor Day had been celebrated at the school liiat afternoon and that each child had planted a native tree with liis or her name attached, and also an English oak tree donated by Airs. Tomlinson, in memory of their late chairman, the Rev. P. .r.'Cossuin. At the conclusion of the programme a. light supper was provided for any who cared to stay, and a dance programme arranged until midnight, the music, being provided by Mr. and Airs. Butler.
