Japan Objects to Dumping Duties

TRADE RELATIONS WITH AUSTRALIA BEING IMPERILLED United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, Sept. 23. Mr. Tanabe, secretary of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Sydney, told the Taviff Board that there was danger of trade relations between Japan and Australia being imperilled if dumping duties were imposed on imports from Japan, where tho attitude of the Commonwealth was causing feeling to run high. The chairman, Mr. McConaghy, said that, dumping duties had been imposed iu other countries at various times, and Japan had not singled them out for special attention. Mr. Holt, representing the Chamber of Manufacturers, said that while Japan was at present Australia's greatest anxiety, there were other countries which might be attacked. A fixed rate in tho foreign column of the tariff was preferable to a dumping duty on individual countries.
