From Our Owu Correspondent, School Hockey.
On Saturday last a five-aside boys] hockey team and a seven-aside girls' team from the Clydesdale school proceeded to Feilding to take part in the primary schools’ hockey tournament held by the Feilding Hockey Association. The following were the members of the boys’ team:—Percy Teague, Frank Luxford, Mill Maxwell, Ted Quinlan and Vernon AlcKenzie (captain). These boys performed with conspicuous success and succeeded in securing the Jewellers shield for their school. They defeated Convent school 4—o, drew with Ohakea, and defeated Glen Oroua in the final by two to nil. The final game produced a sparkling exhibition of hockey and Glen Oroua, although defeated, were not disgraced and it was perhaps the pace and condition of the winners that proved the deciding factor. It would not be fair to individualise on the merits of the winning team as each boy played a splendid game and the whole team co-operated and combined splendidly throughout the day. Congratulations are extended them on" their splendid performance. The girls’ team, although not being quite successful, put up a real good performance and deserve congratulations on their day’s play. The following comprised their team:—Ada Newport, Kathleen Maxwell, Beryl Gibbons, Avis Teague, Lorna Ransom (captain), Pat Grossart and Alargery Quinlan. They defeated Manchester Street 2—o, and Rongotea 2—o, and met Ohakea in the final and were defeated after playing extra time, by a hit behind. However, thenperformance was very creditable and they were just a little unlucky in meeting so good a team as Ohakea in the final. , The Clydesdale school desire to thank Messr P. R. Teague, F. AI. Luxford, J. C Gibbons and S. Quinlan for conveying the players to the tournament, and the players wish to sincerely thank Air, J. F. McKelvie for supplying refreshments to' them during the day.
