From Our Own Correspondent. Town Board Meets.

The monthly meeting of tho Bulls Town Board was held on Thursday night, there being present the chairman, (Cnr. J. E. Walker) and Cnrs F. A. Holland, C. C. Brice, C. W. Broughton, and C. H. Edwards. An apology was received from Cnr. M. C. Gould.

The foreman reported on work done during the month as follows: All main roads have been graded; tho old metal pit In Bridge street has been cleared ot gorse, and trees have been planted. Ah trees have been planted on the Recreation ground, and cleaning has been done where young trees have grown. Levelling work and metalling nas been done at the old metal pit road, and cleaning up has been done at the cemetery, where me sexton s duties had been carried out on several occasions, Metal screening has also been carried out at the pit, and relief woriters have been engaged in clearing gorse at the old metal pit. Regular maintenance work has also been clone where necessary. CoiTesponuenee was received and dealt with as under: The Audit Department wrote m retcrence to tno special rate collected for the Bulls bridge, and the clerk stated in reply that the rate had been levied and collected in the present iorni lor uie past 2;> years. Band and property transters were approved as loltows: —G. U. Goebel to S. U. Goebel; B. J. Kidd to E. iVL. Bangdon; estate late E. Benin to W. Meads jnr.; estate of late N. Eevett to O. and E. Lcvett. The Main Highways Board Intimated that the usual subsidies lor roads in the district would bo available. The Wanganui free Ambulance Committee invited the Board to attend a meeting to arrange for the control of the scheme—tlio clem was deputed to express regret that the Board could not be represented at tne meeting. Rev. A. C. Dane drew attention to the necessity for assisting genuine eases ot distress, suggesting tnat the Board might improve the shed at the bridge, and also hold a dance to raise funds for supplying meals and beds in certain cases. It was mentioned that bunks and other woodwork in the hut had been smashed and burned, and it was evident that the lint was nut appreciated, for which reason it was left locked. Members were not in lavour of forming a fund as the Board would quickly be over-run with requests for lieip. It was decided to point out that the Board had been doing their share towards assisting needy '•travellers”, and that a relief committee had been formed for this purpose. The Rangitikei Maori Tennis Club asked permission to remove about 35 yards of soil from the Cemetery Road for the purpose of topdressing their new tennis court—granted subject to the work being done to tho foreman’s satisfaction. Crs. Holland and Broughton were deputed to go into the question of improving the road culvert at the junction of the Cemetery Road, and make necessary arrangements with representatives of the Rangitikei County Council. Retcrence was made by several commissioners to the necessity lor coating several streets with metal to fill in pot holes, and the foreman was instructed to put same in hand. The Dog Tax Collector was deputed to sue for fees due.

Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—Wages, £2l IS !>; Hospital levies £2l 12 5; lighting £l4 17 11; insurances, £G4 13 li; salaries, £2l 4 b; audit fees £'J 9; trees and shrubs £6 10 (i; totals £ISO 17s sd. Collections were received during the month as follow: —Rents £ls 11 1; rates £4O 4 6; dog tax, £1 10; cemetery £3 IU; library £(i 13 2; domain £ 44; totals £SO S 7. A general clean-up week will be held next month, and every resident is entitled to have one load of rubbish removed gratis. Cnr Edwards referred to the need for some system of doing' away with the dust nuisance in the street, and it was agreed to obtain information from oil companies as to the possibility of treating the roads with patent fluid. It was decided that the men's cloak room in the hall be available for meetings at a cheap rental.

Cnr Broughton was deputed to superjvise the erection of a suitable picket fence at the cemetery.
