Wrestling

OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT AT 7.45 Attention is drawn to the starting hour of the big professional wrestling bout at the Opera House to-night. Tho tourney will commence at 7.45 with an amateur bout followed by tho main match between the big visiting grapplers A 1 Pereira and Jack Patterson. Patterson arrived in Palmerston North yesterday as fit as can be and promises a good bout with Pereira, with whom he has been looking forward to getting to “holts," as the younger-wrestler is seriously threatening the supremacy of tho big American. Patterson has a reputation for rough-house tactics, but tho agility of the Portuguese should prove a competent foil if any should be tried. His disqualification for swinging on “Whiskers" Blake's hirsute appendage may have created a diversion at Hawera but in opposing tho clean-shaved, clean-limbed Pereira his undoubted skill as a straight wrestler is more likely to get him the verdict to-night than resorting to showmanship unless it is camouflaged bettor than the whisker “swing" hold. The tourney will conclude with other amateur contests, including a special bout between, Young, the clever Maori wrestler from Auckland, and Burton, well-known in our city. The bos plans may be seen at the Central Booking Office up to 5 o’clock and from 6.30 to 7 at the Opera House.
