Renown Theatre, Shannon

The film for Friday and Saturday is RKO-Radio Pictures’ “Ladies of the Jury,’’ and stars the inimitable Edna May Oliver in a boisterous, hearty boisterous comedy which reveals the personal ambitious, the dickerings and ludicrous situations rising out of the jury system. Novel in theme and comedy possibilities, the picture is the first to be screened with this unusual background. Six strikingly beautiful women vie with as many rib-tickling ace-comedians for honours in RKORadio Pictures’ fast-moving comedy, “Ladies of the Jury,” opening to-day at the Renown Theatre, Shannon. The screen charmers are Jill Esmond, a favourite of Broadway, New York; Kitty Kelly, lately of Ziegfeld’s glorified Follies; Lita Chevret, winner of many beauty contests and featured RKORadio Pictures’ actress; Florence Lake, screen ingenue; Helen Millarde, blonde and bewitching young lady; and Susan Fleming. Interpreting the humour which is uppermost throughout the colourful story are Edna May Oliver, the star, a sure-fire laugh-getter; Ken Murray, noted vaudevillian; Rosco Atcs, the stuttering printer of “Camarron”; Guin (“Big Boy”) W T illiams, Kate Price, Cora Witherspoon and Tom Francis. In character and romantic roles are Morgan Galloway, Leyland Hodgson, George Andre Beranger, Charles Dow Clark and Robert McWade.
