The Fire Brigade reccivod two calls on Wednesday evening. The first, about 7.45 p.m., was to a chimney fire ’in Park road. The second, later, was to Milford road, where it was found that a house ownod by Mrs. A. McDonald, was ablaze. The residence was outside the brigade area, but a good save was effected by a bucket brigade. Slight damage was done to tho walls of two rooms. Speaking at the meeting of woolgrowers in Wellington last week the Minster of Lands, the Hon, E. A Ransom, said he had asked Dr. E. Marsden, of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, to endeavour to discover the uses for butter-fat other than for human food. He thought there were other uses to which it could be put, for he would not subscribe for one moment to a policy of limited production. ‘‘We are going to produce, and c.fontinuo to produce to the highest possible limit. The latest addition to the Dominion’s aircraft is tho Redwing light biplane. Tho machine has been imported for the nse of Mr. H. T. Parry, of Hokitika. All the parts are to hand and tho work of assembling the machine will probably be begun early next week at Wigram aerodrome. The aeroplane is a new make and is tho first of its kind to be imported to New Zealand. It has an Armstrong-Siddeley Genet engine, capable of producing 80 to 88 h.p. and of lifting a weight of 14501 b. The unladen weight is 8501 b. The machine has accommodation for two persons, including the pilot, seated by side. No other light aeroplane in New Zealand has side-by-side seating.
