Players’ Privileges
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was pleased to see “Third Grader’s” letter in your columns this morning bringing to light a matter of dissatisfaction among all players. While everyone will give credit to the authorities for their work for the good of the game, it must be admitted that the players are equally essential, and if Rugby is still to flourish they should be treated with equality. Why grant privileges to one section and not the other? Surely it is not too much to ask for passes for the players to representative matches and thereby bring them -to the same footing as the officials of the union.
It should bo remembered that in these hard times a great many players find it difficult enough to provide themselves with fooball gear and pay their club subscription to enable them to take part in their weekly game. The clubs are doing their hit to the best of their ability, so it is up to the Rugby TTuion to keep with the times. By making this small concession they will be making a progressive step and ■will thereby get more co-operation from both players and public. Club delegates, give this matter your consideration. —I am, etc., OLD PLAYER, Palmerston North, June 29, 1933.
