Hukanui

From Our Own Correspondent. A social afternoon was hold recently when the Eketahuua Ladies’ Guild visited Hukauui. Items and competitions passed a pleasant afternoon and afternoon tea was served. Mrs Brown recited and songs were sung by Mesdames AVcnham and Watkins. After tea Mrs Gallagher addressed the meeting and asked if a Guild could bo started at Hukanui. The suggestion was met with favourable response and the following officers wore elected:— prseident Mrs E. A. Harrington, vicepresidents Mesdames A. Lawrence, and V. Goodwin, secretary Mrs W. Watkins,treasurer Mrs L. Wcnham. It was decided to call a meeting at an early date.

Tho following ladies were present at tho Methodist Ladies’ Guild held on Friday June 16: Mesdames Harrington, (in the chair), A. Lawrence, V. Goodin, L. Wcnham, F. Sparkes, W. Watkins, E. B. Daldy and F. Lemberg. It was proposed by Mrs Lawrence and seconded by Mrs Goodin that they meet once a month at, the various members’ houses. A charge of Gd a month is to bo made for-membors and each lady is to bring a small plate for afternoon tea. It was decided to meet on tho third Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. and Mrs Harrington will hold a meeting in her house on the fourth Wednesday for tho Kakariki ladies and any others who care to attend. Tho first meeting is to be hold in Mrs Lawrence's houso in June.. The sum of 7/- was handed over to the treasurer which was collected during the afternoon, and it was decided to buy 5/worth of material to bo given out at tho next meeting to be made up into saleable articles. Mrs Wenham was asked to see Mr Hartley of Pahiatua- to see what materials could be got for 5/- anil to buy same. Mr E. H. Parker accompanied by his daughter, loft Hukanui last week to spend a holiday in Gisborne and Auckland. Mrs Morris has returned’' to her home in Woodvillo. Mr Allen Parker had tho misfortune to crack two of his ribs in a recent football match. ■
