Mysterious Raid by Unseen ’Planes

Pamphlets Drop in Berlin OFFICIAL NAZI STORY United Press Association—By Elcetric Telegraph.—Copyright. BERLIN, June 24. Newspapers havo been ordered to print prominently on their front pages an official roport that “foreign aeroplanes of an unknown type” appoared over Borlin during the afternoon and dropped pamphlets “insulting to the Government.” Tho Air Minister, Captain Gocriug, said that as the air police do not possess aircraft, several sporting machines pursued the foreigners, but could not overtake tho intruders. Tho newspapers also have been ordered to publish an official statemum strongly protosting about Germany's defencclcssnoss in tho air.

Tho statement adds: “Pamphlets were dropped to-day. High explosive and incendiary bombs may be dropped to-morrow. Why havo we no aeroplanes?” Nobody seems to have seen the mystery aeroplanes. Both air police and aerodrome authorities declare that they have no knowledge of them. “Germany Defenceless” “AIR RAID” LOOKS LIKE A FAKE BERLIN, Juno 25. Pres 3 and official circles continue to make tho utmost political capital out of the “air raid,” which by a strange coincidence came 24 hours before the opening of Germany's aviation week with exhibitions in many cities o.t models of aeroplanes.

It now appears that not only did nobody see the air raiders, but nobody has even seen the anti-Hitlerite leaflets supposed to have been scattered from them. The authorities in Berlin say that copies of tho leaflets arc filed by various Ministers, but are not open to inspection.

Captain Woering has decided to order two police aeroplanes immediately. He says: “We must havo defence aeroplanes. I had not a single machine,” he told the British United Press representative “that could bo sent aloft yesterday. The incident shows how defenceless Germany is. Communist machines might come over at any time.”

Bunk ! TRANSPARENT RUSE FOR MORE PLANES Received Monday, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, June 26. The News-Chronicle, denouncing the “police planes as bunk,” declares that no official eye saw cither tho planes or the incredibly insulting pamphlets. This is surely careless. The pamphlets should at least havo been prepared beforehand. Tho obedient German Press, however, shouts for police planes and that Germany will not bo happy till she gets them. Simultaneously a real German, aoroplane showered Austria with anti-Dull-fuss leaflets so Austria also wants police planes, The game may thus continue indefinitely. Austria Wants Armed Aircraft Received Monday, 10.45 p.m. VIENNA, June 26. While the German Press is maintaining its alarmist propaganda in favour of aerial defence it is understood Austria as a result of the leaflet raid on Kinz when the Premier was speaking, i 3 appealing to the allied signatories to the Treaty of Saint Germain to support the Austrian request already submitted to the Disarmament Conference for permission to use armed defensive aircraft.
