Successful Effort For W.D.F.U. Funds
Tlio street stall held in the Square on Saturday and organised by the Palmerston North branch of the Women’s Division of tlid Farmers’ Union to augment. the community chest funds, met with gratifying success. An attractive array of produco and home cooking induced brisk business and various competitions added greatly to tho interest. The competition for tomato sauce drew no less than 15 entries and was won by Mrs. N. D. Stubbs, Palmerston North. A spongo cake competition was also keenly contested, the prize-winner being Miss Merrett, Mount Biggs, Feilding. Botil classes were judged by Mrs. D. Buchanan, Tiakitahuna, and tho trophies were donated by Mrs. E. Doherty and Mrs. W. G-. Shannon. A lovely dinner, which included a goose, was donated by Mrs. H. R Green (Kairanga) and w r as won by No. 6, Master Don Eglinton (Kairanga), whilo a liandsomo cake made by Miss Montgomery (Awahurft) and iced by Mrs. D. Watson (Palmerston North) was won by Mrs. D. Trow (No. 69), 410 Euahine street. A. competition for a kangaroo which had been cleverly fashioned from sheep’s wool by Mrs. 11. W. Thomas, of Milson’s line, has not yet been devided. Saturday’s effort will materially assist the fine work for the country women to which the community chest funds are devoted. Assisting at the stall during the day were Mesdames F. J. Nathan, Armstrong, D. Watson, J. Davidson, J. A. McLeavey, H. E. Green, E. Doherty, W. J. Croucher, Smith and the enthusiastic secretary, Mrs, E. A. Shaw..
