At Ballarat the wicket was slow and easy for the match between England and the Victorian country representatives. England were all out for 255. Fataudi made 84. Ho batted for 166 minutes. Leyland’s 61 included one sis and four fours. Ho was batting for 83 minutes. Stalker, a fairly fast bowler, took fo*ur for 62. Jardine, who opened the innings, was bowled by Stalker after scoring a single. Alexander, the intcr-State bowler, took ono for 60. Ballarat scored 26 for the loss of one wicket, Tate taking ono wicket for 8 runs. Prior to tho game a letter from the Board of Control was read to the Ballarat players forbidding the leg theory and the instructions -were obeyed throughout the innings. Replying to adverse criticisms at a luncheon Jardine said it was not his place to debate the leg theory, but he asked them to seo how many times Larwood hit the wickets. Tho ban-ack-ers wero always crying, “Bowl on the wicket, ’ ’ therefore they should consider Larwood’s record in this respect.
