Wool Values Up Again
Goad Sale at Auckland
EXCHANGE RATE INCREASE HAS EFFECT
Per Press Association AUCKLAND, Last Night. There was a definite, if slight, appreciation in values for wool at tho second Auckland sale of tho 1932-33 series. Tho decision of tho Government to incrcaso the exchange rato on London had a direct bearing on the result of tho sale, and in tho activities of tile buyers there was an immediate reflection of tho benefit of tho additional 15 per cent, rate to growers. The most satisfactory feature, however, was that, apart from tho influence of the exchange position, tho markot was definitely firmer, fulfilling the hope that the recent improvements iu values overseas, first for finer descriptions and ultimately embracing crossbred types, would havo their sequel in a local advance. Compared With the opening sale in Auckland, prices over tho general range of medium quality wool wero from 3d to Id better, although on a basis of the sale at Wanganuion Monday tho improvement was not more than from par to Id per lb. Lambs’ wool and hoggets’ wool, which gre generally bought as special lines, were in strong demand and wore estimated to bo definitely highter. There was a keen demand from all buying countries and 95 per cont. of the offering was sold. Tho top price was 124 d, secured for super halfbred. The average prico was a little over 5d and tho average price per bale about £7 10s. At the December sale the average prico was under 4d and per Dale about £5 12s 6d.
