Sir Charles - Kingsford-Smith was speeding through tho air to New Plymouth. All over New Zealand listeners were tuned in for reports of his progress, and in a private hospital in Christchurch the most important man in the world, for five other patients, lay back in 'his bed with tho headphones on. His sons had fixed up. a receiving set for him to make easier tho long and weary hours that pass so slowly when one is in hospital. He was the only source of news for the other five patients in the ward, and as each announcement camo through ho repeated it aloud. Smithy neared the end of his journey, sighted land, drew closer.
