Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., and Mrs. Stout returned to Palmerston North yesterday aftor tho holiday vacation. The Rev. J. D. McArthur and family, of Waldogravo street, Palmerston North, returned to tho city yesterday after spending a three weeks’ holiday at Waikanao. Mr. Charles Goiner, stipendiary steward of tho Western District Pacing Association, Victoria, has boon appointed chairman of stipendiary stewards of tho Now Zealand Racing Confpronce, states a Melbourne cable. The death is reported by eablofrom Melbourne of Rev. Dr,. McCallum. He had hold the highest offices in the Methodist Church in Australia, and was editor of the Methodist journal, The Spectator. He was 72 years of age. Mr. John Dash, M.A., an assistant master at the Palmerston North High School, has been appointed to the important position of principal of the Hawera Technical High School. His preferment, which was announced yesterday, is a recognition of his services and ability, for though a comparatively young man to receive such an appointment, he has a vigorous personality, and is very popular in this city. Prior to joining the staff of tho Palmerston North Boys’ High School on February 25, 1925, Mr. Dash was a resident master at Nelson College and the Waitaki Boys' High School. During his term of service at this centre Mr. Dash has been very closely associated with the sports activities of tho school, and for two years coached the first fifteen. His work has been highly appreciated by the Board of Governors, and it is felt that his appointment to Hawera is a well-deserved recognition of his merits.
