The approach of the Manawatu Centre New Year pairs tournament found members, who intend participating, busily engaged having a try out on the Manawatu green during the past few days. Tho Centre tournaments are always enjoyable and for a couple of good days’ sport, members should get a partner and enter. Apart from tho winning and losing of games, the tournament experience gained helps xo make many bowlers more conlident in their games, and confidence is half the battle in playing many a shot. The Manawatu Centre has long been noted for running its tournaments in a most capable fashion and bowlers w'ill start off their New Year and their holidays with a good deal of pleasure by entering for this tournament. Entries cio&e on Saturday. So far the following Manawatu Club pairs have arranged to enter: —Shand and Barnes (s), Carlyle and McDonald (s), Porter and Olnoy (s), Kershaw and Mason (s). Several championship games were played yesterday afternoon on tne Manawatu green. In tho championship singles King beat Barnes 22 —14. Championship pairs: Kennedy, Corbridgc (s) 25 beat Cockburn, Gcrrand (s) 16; Cockburn, Gcrrand (s) 29 beat Carlyle, McDonald (s) 12. In tho championship pairs game between Gcrrand (s) and McDonald (s) a good drawing game resulted. Gerraua show'ed a return to his old skill and registered a comfortable victory. Tho following now remain in the championship singles: Kershaw and Shand with two lives, Oxenham, Corbridge and King with one life. TRIANGLE SHIELD WON BY FOXTGN. THIRD ROUND AT LEVIN. The third round for the Triangle Shield was played at Levin yesterday afternoon between four rinks from Levin and two each from Shannon and Foxton. Foxton won the shield, which has been competed for since 1917. aud
