A November Wedding in Feilding
3 THOMAS—ALSOP • At St. John’s Church on "Wednesday, > November 30, tho wedding took place 3 of Helen Stilwcll, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. 11. Alsop, Dcnbigii ' Street, and Leonard Bussell, younger son of Mrs. Thomas, Churchcr Street, and tho late Mr. Edmond Thomas. Tall I va'ses of summer blooms had been used . t:o beautify the altar and the ceremony . was performed by Rev. E. H. Petrie, M.A., Air. E. A. Golding being at the organ. The bride was given away by her father and wore a delightfully soft , and pretty frock of ivory georgette ■ and lace, designed with pinafore effect. .The short lace-trimmed bodice had . puffed sleeves with elbow-length cuff? i of pintueked georgette, and a georgette ; bow let into one shoulder gave a dainty . finish. The skirt was long and pan- , died with lace at one side. Upon her) head tho bride wore a little lace cap over which was arranged a veil of silk net that fell lo her foot and was gathered in at the back of the neck w T itk a trail of orange blossom. Her shoes were of ivory satin and she carried a lovely sheaf of creme roses tinted with palest pink and mingled with maidenhair and asparagus fern. Miss Gwen Jones as bridesmaid wore a beautiful frock of delphinium blue crepe nierano. The long bodice was close-fitting and had leg-of-mutton sleeves with three . little frills at the elbows. Three frills gave a coatee effect to the bodice, and similar frills were set midway on the skirt which flared very fully from there to tho ground. Tho frock was drawn in at the waistlino with a narrow sash tied in front in a long bow. Her hat of shiny blue straw had a bandeau of pastel-shaded flowers and her arm-sheaf was of blue delphiniums tied with blue ribbon. Little Juno Thomas (niece of tho bridegroom) made a sweet flower ■ girl wearing a Kate | Greenaway frock of white organdie, { patterned with blue flowors. Her straw 1 bonnet was trimmed with blue ribbon | and she carried a basket of blue and 5 pink sweet peas, Air, Ted Alsop ‘(bro- I tlicr of the bride) was best man. '.Seine f GO guests were afterwards entertained | by Air. and Airs. Alsop in tho W.D.F.U. | rooms, where floral decorations had | been carried out with artistic skill. .. Mrs. Alsop wore a frock of navy wool " crepe, do chine with striped trimming, and a hat to tone, her bouquet being ® of plum-colourcd flowers shading into pink aiul backed with tinted leaves, p Mrs. D. W, Reid (sister of tho bride- p groom), who owing to tho absence of si her mother assisted Air. and Airs. Al- b sop in receiving -the guests, was in a P red floral ensemble ’with hat to match, ti and carried a bouquet in autumn tints, bi Mrs. Laurence Billman, of Patanui, p Morrinsvillo (sister of the bride), wore fl: a flowered silk frock under a coat of b. lenion-colourcd light summer tweed; L her hat was of brown straw and k orange-tinted roses and cream leaves tl composed her bouquet. Following the c; honouring of the usual toasts, the bride ai and bridegroom left for Wellington, hi from where they later returned to the si Manawatu by aeroplane. The bride 1travclled in a frock of larkspur bluo silk marocain, relieved with beige and = olue-spotted silk, with which she wore i hat of beige straw and semi-military mat of blue summer velour. Alany Iseful and handsome gifts were revived by Air. and Airs. Thomas, who lave made their home in .Sanson. The nidegroom’s present to the bride was i beautiful gold .wristlet watch.
Girl Guides’ Garden Party Wita the object of raising funds to provide’ district headquarters, a garden party will bo held to-morrow at the residence of Dr. E. G. Barnett, Fitzherbert Avenue, under the auspices of the Palmerston North Girl Guido Association. The Guides and Rangers have been -working hard for some -weeks to provide unusual attractions, and in addition to well-stocked stalls there will be competitions that will please, also folk-dancing. Tho Brownios arc lending a hand with a bran tub to delight tho little folk, and members of the executive will bo in charge of the tea arrangements. AH theso joys may be had in delightful surroundings, but should the day be wet the function will take place in All Saints’ Parish Hall.
