Repertory Society
ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS
The annual meeting of the ATanawatu Repertory Society was held on Thursday evening, Dr. F. H. McDowail presiding. The annual report recorded that the membership, both active and nonactive, had shown a consistent inciL-asu indicating that the society had been steadily attracting tho interest of citizens. There was now a roll of IV, 38 being active. The monthly reading of plays had proved most successful from every point of view. The committee felt "that the readings were a very important section of the society’s activities. On account of the delay in the appointment of the permanent committee, only one full-staged production was arranged. Tho production of the play was entrusted to Airs. L. Potter, who justified in every way tho confidence of the committee and the society was indebted to her for carrying the production through to such a successful issue. From a financial poinf of view tho production was also successful, the proceeds being handed to the Central Relief fund. The society now possessed tho nucleus of its requirements for the staging of plays in the matter of scenery. In that connection acknowledgment was made of the work of the lion, secretary, Air. T. AJ. N. Rodgers. The funds of the society were in a healthy condition, the surplus of assets being £2O 2s. Acknowledgments were due to Aliss Gwen Gibbs for concessions in the use ot her studio and to Mr. Rodgers for use of his office. The retiring president (Dr. AleDowall) expressed his personal appreciation of tho loyal co-operation of the members of the executive and other members during the year which could be regarded as successful from every point of view. Officers were elected as follow: — Patron, Air. D. S. Wylie; president, Dr. C. King; secretary, Air. Garde Gnmshaw; assistant secretary, Aliss IJ. Hancock; treasurer, Air. J. P. Tasker; committee, Airs. Potter, Airs. Bennett, Air. T. At. N. Rodgers, Air. C. N. •lammo and Dr. AleDowall. A vote of thanks was passed to tho retiring secretary (Air. Rodgers) - , tri-
bates being paid to the untiring services ho had rendered in tho interests of tho society. The vote was accompanied by musical honours. A vote of thanks was also passed to the retiring president.
