Hit by 16-pound Hammer
BOY IN SERIOUS CONDITION. Per Press Association. NAPIER, Last Night. Concussion was sustained by a 14-year-old boy, Gavin Stuart, this evening when ho was hit on the side of the head by a 16-pound hammer which had been thrown by an athlete narnc'd Campbell when practising on McLean park at tho conclusion of the Napier athletic meeting. As Campbell was about to throw tho hammer either he slipped or tho hammer left iu a direction he did not anticipate and went towards two boys sitting on tho fence 50 or 60 yards away. Both boys were knocked from the fence. Stuart was struck on the side of the head, while the other boy was struck only by the chain. The latter soon recovered, but Stuart was removed to the hospital. His condition is serious.
