Palmerston North Girls’ High School

PRESENTATION OF LIFE-SAVING

AWARDS

Yesterday afternoon awards of lifesaving and swimming certificates, as well as medallions, were made to pupils and two members of the teaching staff of tho Palmerston North Girls 5 High School, when 24 bronze medallions, five teachers 5 certificates, one honorary instructor's certificate were distributed, besides 18 merit, 2 proficiency and 20 learners 5 certificates for distanco swimming.

The presentations were made by Mr. W. L. Eitzherbert, president or tne Manawatu branch of the Royal LifeSaving Society, and chairman of tho High Schools Board of Governors. He congratulated' thoso who had qualified upon their performances, and stressed the value of being proficient in the water. The awards were made as follow:

Life-Saving.

Honorary instructors’ certificate: Miss R. Benstead (staff). Teachers 5 certificates: J. Bennett, Q. Crawshaw, P. Edwards, P. Hobden, J. Pierard.

Bronzo medallions (with certificates): Miss R. Benstead (staff), Miss L. Brown (staff), M. Billens, J. Bristow, P. Broad, W. Buchanan, C. Bullen, A. Cameron, A, Gardener, V. Hancock, L. Mount, N. Louisson, J. Northey, D. Oxnam, N. Percy, E. Spilman, J. Thomley, R. Walker, I. Wass, M. Woodroofe. Four others, M. Aikman, E. Berry, M. Reid and B. Stubbs, also qualified, but are too young to hold the medallions, which will bo presented later. Distance Awards.

Certificates of merit: C. McCulloch (2640 yards), P. Barnard, J. Bristow, E. Fletcher, M. Hadfield, B. Hansen, V. Hancock, R. Menendez, M. Reid, W. Seriveu (1760 yards), E. Andersen (1500 yards), P. Gillott, L. Hair, L. Mouat, J. Northey, D. Oxnam, E. Polglase, B. Stevens (880 yards). Certificates of proficiency: R. Allen, N. Butters (225 yards). Learners 5 certificates: E. Titcombo (125 yards), P. Broad, C. Bullen, L. Schwass, B. Stubbs (100 yards), D. Abraham, K. Bass, J. Bennett, R. Calvert, C. L. Hemmingsen, J. Mansell, J. Quarrie, H. Reid, J. Smith, N. Stubbs, J. Swinburne, N. Tregurtha and K. Turner (50 yards).
