RELIEF WORKER WHO CONVERTED CAR TO HIS OWN USI
“Unfortunately, the maximum sentence on such a charge as this is only three months’ hard labour; but that’s what you are going to get,” stated Mr. J. L. " Stout, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday when Robert Allan Love, alias Robert Alan Foote, alias Tiger Foote, was called upon to face the charge that he unlawfully converted a car valued at £250, the property of A. V. Oliver, to his own use on Saturday last. Accused pleaded guilty. Senior Detective Quirke said that Love was a labourer by occupation and until recently had been a relief worker at the Makowhai camp. About 1 o'clock on Saturday afternoon accused had’ taken the car from the packing stand adjacent to the weighbridge in the Square and, driving out Napier road, had run into a ditch. The car ’ had been badly damaged. “This man has previously been before the Court for a similar offence he took a motor cycle —while he has also faced a charge of theft,” added the senior detective.
