Submarine Tragedy Filmed On Sea Bed

The sinking of a submarine with all men on board, and tlio subsequent rescue of the crcwe, one of the most exciting and novel episodes ever photographed for the movies, is shown in full detail in Douglas Fairbanks, Jnr’s. latest starring film for First National Pictures, “It’s Tough to be Famous," which comes to the Palace on Wednesday next. Fairbanks, portraying the young commanding officer of the submarine, is trapped with his men after the undersea boat has been rammed by an excursion vessel. Because the submarine was sunk i'll only SOft, of water, Doug is able to save his mcen by shooting them to the surface through the torpedo tubes. The men are shown as they shoot to the surface of the water, where rescue ships and divers are waiting, with no one left to release him through the torpedo tube. Doug, prepares for the lingering death which follows exhaustion of oxygen in the submarine. His rescue by divers when he has lapsed into unconsciousness provides further thrills for "It’s Tough to be Famous. ’ ’ After the rescue the star iis hailed as a national hero, even before ho regains consciousness on the fleet’s flagship. His trials and tribulations continue from that' point on, through his marriage and subsequent loss to all rights of privacy. His life becomes a series of banquets and parties in his honour, all of which arouse his desire to "get away from it all.”
