Feilding Branch Anniversary
METHODIST WOMEN’S MISSIONARY AUXILIARY
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS The strength of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary which cooperates with all homo and foreign missionary work was demonstrated at the 25th birthday celebrations of the Feilding branch held in the Methodist Church schoolroom yesterday afternoon and evening. The large and enthusiastic gathering was presided over oy Mrs. Joseph Darragh, president of ttio local auxiliary, who recorded her pleasure at the growth of the membership and evident interest in the work by the women of the Church.
Representatives from sister churches in the town were present, and conveyed greetings from their respective organisations. An interesting feature of the proceedings was the reading of the minutes of the first meeting of the auxiliary held in Feilding during the ministry of the late Rev. 0. E. B. Croft, a greatly beloved man. These interesting minutes were read by Mrs. J. H. Gray, one of the original office bearers. The announcements included the reading of greetings from old members of the local auxiliary who are now scattered in various parts of New Zealand.
Mrs. C. Beattie, president of the auxiliary for 17 years, spoke of the work done by the organisation. A cordial welcome was extended to Mrs. George Boweron, of Christchurch, who for many years was the president of the movement.
The beautiful birthday cate, made by Mrs. John Gould, -was adorned with 25 candles which were lighted by Mesdames Darragh and Beattie. This ceremony completed Mrs. Bowron was invited to cut the cake which was then partaken of by the gathering. The beautiful floral decorations evoked most enthusiastic admiration and their artistic arrangement, undertaken by Mrs. George Kilvington, was equally well admired. The Rev. P. Copeland conducted the devotional exercises and received the thanks offering of the occasion. A sumptuous afternoon tea was provided by a committee of ladies. Last evening the celebrations were brought to a close when members of the auxiliary with their friends were entertained by members of the Young Women’s Bible Class.
