A Sydney Wedding Of Interest to Oroua
lIURN—COATES Of interest to many relatives and' friends in the Oroua and Manawatu districts was a pretty evening wedding that took place at St. Mark’s Church, Darling Point, Sydney, on June 11, the bride being Bessie, elder daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. Willis B. Coates, of Darling Point, and the bridegroom Arthur James (Robin), younger son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hurn, of Feilding, New Zealand. The church had for the occasion been decorated with tall palms and quantities of lovely flowers, and the ceremony was performed by Canon Howard Lea. The service was fully choral and a beautiful solo was sung by Miss Johnstone. Miss Coates was given away by her father and was wearing a very graceful gown of ivory marocain with a georgette train mounted over shell pink. With this slio wore her mother’s lovely old veil of hand-cm-broidercd tulle, which reached to the end of her train and was caught to her head with a -wreath of orange blossom. Her shower bouquet was of hyacinths and heather. Miss Wilma Coates, sister of the bride, and Miss Esther Stuart were the bridesmaids. Their pretty frocks with short-sleeved coatees were of shell pink lace over georgette, and their mittens and velvet shoes were in a shade to tone. Pink rosebuds wreathed their heads and they carried delightful muffs of natural flowers in tints of pink. Mr. Don Marshall was best man and Mr. John Freeman was groomsman. The reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, and Mr, and Mrs. Coates wero assisted in receiving the guests by Mrs. Hurn, the bridegroom’s mother, who had journeyed to Sydney for the occasion. Mrs. Coates was gowned in black lace with touches of white, her black panne velvet coat being trimmed with fox fur. She also w T orc a black and white model hat and carried a bouquet of red flowers. Mrs. Hurn was attired in a frock of black lace over georgette. Her handsome black silk coat was bordered with fringe and appliqued with oriental flowers. Sho wore a black velvet hat and her bouquet was of damask roses and mignonette. Palms and flowers were used iu profusion to deeorate the house, and the breakfast tables were garlanded with pink sweet peas and rosebuds. The raised bridal table had as its centrepiece the handsome wedding cake, coloured white and ornamented with silver* Many useful ami valuable presents, as well as a number of substantial cheques, were received by the bride and bridegroom, who are making their homo in Sydney. The bride’s travelling attire w-hen she left with her husband for a trip to the Blue mountains was a becoming brown frock under a pesclianiki fur coat, with hat, shoes and handbag to match.
